I - Information & training

  • From the reopening of all programs, the school will be equipped with 10 washable and durable children’s masks, 2,000 disposable children size spare masks, 400 disposable adults’ masks, 20L foam hand soap, 20L hand sanitizer (alcohol: 62 to 85%), 24,000 one-use only tissues.

  • The Sanitation Protocol is valid until the 1st January 2022.

  • Parents are informed about the school's and Japanese Government's measures, and are highly encouraged to keep appropriate behavioral responses during the validity of the Sanitation Protocol: daily check of their children's temperature and symptoms, of their own, wear a mask at all times outdoor when dropping off their children, not wearing shoes indoor, insist on their children wearing masks outdoor as well, carry a hand sanitizer at all times, beware of elevator's buttons, stairs' handrails and door knobs, wash hands of your children after using playgrounds, carefully wash all items purchased in grocery markets and other stores, keep social distancing at all times.

  • The school's administration should be immediately informed in case a student or any member of the family or close friends has symptoms and has seen or planned to see a doctor for a checkup.

  • Teachers and all school's staff members are trained in behavioral responses, social distancing rules, hygiene rules, and wear masks at all times at school and outside.

  • The school's students are everyday trained on the Sanitation Protocol, and even 3 years old preschoolers are taught to wear masks properly.

II - School's daily start and ending

  • All parents and students should arrive at school wearing masks properly adjusted, and keeping social distancing with other parents (one meter). No parent is allowed inside the school.

  • Students take off their shoes at the school entrance, their temperature is immediately taken and noted on the attendance sheet, and their hands are cleaned with a hand sanitizer before they can go up the stairs to the bathroom to wash their hands with soap, wipe them with a one-use only tissue, and go to the classrooms.

  • Any temperature above 37,5°c leads to a child being sent back home. If a student has forgotten his/her mask at home or on the way, a spare mask is given.

  • Any student having taken an airplane even domestically is encouraged to stay at home 14 days following his/her return to Tokyo before coming back to school. Any family starting to host someone who has taken an airplane should inform the administration.

III – Hygiene, building’s organization, and maintenance

  • All students are trained to happily wash their hands with soap (dry with a one-time only tissue) a total of eight times: at the arrival, before the first rooftop recess, after the recess, before lunch, after lunch, before the snack, after the second recess, before leaving from school. Anytime the hands are spoiled by saliva, mucus etc., extra washes are required. Staff members follow the same routine.

  • All students of the French-Japanese International School are trained from age 3 to wear masks properly throughout the day and during nap time. Any student not wearing his/her mask properly is notified.

  • Every morning before students arrive and at the school closure at 7 or 8 pm, the school is thoroughly cleaned using alcohol and not harmful detergents, especially bathrooms, door knobs, handrails, buttons, toys, tables & chairs.

  • Ventilation of classrooms is constant when the weather is warm, occasional when colder (during recess & lunch).

  • Lunch meals and afternoon snack times are held at the same time but in separate classrooms between nursery pupils, preschoolers, and elementary students.

  • On park day (Wednesdays), all students’ hands are washed with water and soap before leaving the playground.

IV – Social distancing at school

  • Owing to every student wearing masks, a distance of one meter between pupils during class time is not as necessary as it would be without masks, in addition the measure is hardly applicable in a preschool, however a distance is kept between students during lunch and snack times when students must take out their mask.

  • Teachers and assistants will prevent students from having physical contacts.

  • The separation between nursery, preschool and elementary students (during classes, lunch, snack and recess) allows the non-closure of the entire school whenever a positive Covid-19 case is found.

V – School transportation

  • All students using the school’s vehicles must wear masks.

  • All vehicles are regularly cleaned using alcohol and detergents.

VI – After-school activities, short-term childcare, holiday schools, and school events

  • All previously mentioned rules apply to children enrolled in other schools and benefiting from the school’s popular activities and holiday schools.

  • Regarding events when parents and outside visitors are invited, all guests’ temperature is taken; guests must wear masks, clean their hands with a hand sanitizer and take off their shoes at the entrance, try to keep social distance and wash their hands upon arriving in the classrooms, which will be thoroughly cleaned following the event.

  • During BBQ events on the rooftop, the staff members in charge of the cooking are well equipped and undergo beforehand a health checkup in Kita-ku health center.

VII – Covid-19 crisis management

  • All parents should be well informed of the school’s management response to a case of Covid-19 within the school network.

  • Any suspicion of symptoms in a student leads to his/her return back home immediately; parents are invited to monitor the child’s condition at home and proceed with a PCR test should the symptoms continue for a duration of four days. The student can return to school provided that the test’s results have been submitted to the school administration.

  • When a positive case is detected, all members of the family are tested and 14 days quarantine is requested for all members.

  • Furthermore, as early as possible, a diagnostic of the entire classroom is to be performed by Kita-ku Health Center’s professionals. The screening will take place at school. The classroom is to be closed for 14 days.

  • The management response whenever a covid19 case is detected at school can evolve case by case according to the requests from the Japanese authorities.
